Sometimes it seems like life is just flying by because you are so busy… work, chores, obligations, after school activities, church, clubs, our spouses schedule vs ours… the list just goes on and on! Maybe like me you ask yourself often, “How come I have too many things to do all the time…???”
Some say, “Busy is good because it shows you’re alive.” Hmmm….
Richard Paul Evans take is, “The law of centrifugal force seems to be as true for the human condition as it is for the Newtonian mechanics. The faster our lives spin, the more things tend to fly apart.”
Patt Hollinger Pickett says, “We all have the same 24/7. What we do with our time becomes our priority. Choose what you do with your time and do not lead a life by default!” That makes you think doesn’t it?
“Those who are wise won’t be busy, and those who are too busy can’t be wise.” ― Lin Yutang
“I’m so busy doing what I must do that I don’t have time for what I ought to do… and I never get a chance to do what I want to do! – Son, that’s universal. The way to keep that recipe from killing you is occasionally to do what you want to do anyhow.” ― Robert A. Heinlein
Mother Teresa said it this way, “Never be so busy as not to think of others.”
“Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans” according to John Lennon in one of his songs.
“Beware the barrenness of a busy life.” – Socrates
“To busy oneself with what is futile when one can do something useful, to attend to what is simple when one has the mettle to attempt what is difficult, is to strip talent of its dignity.” – Jose Marti
So we ponder these things and like I did this weekend we finally say enough and take a blessed moment to enjoy someone elses company without any hidden agenda! Take a nice leisurely walk, sit on the porch swing and talk, skype with your grandkids and be silly, cuddle on the sofa with your favorite person and watch something you both like on TV or listen to music together, go canoeing, kayaking, boating, swimming, fishing… be creative together! Life is too short to let it just fly by with busyness… its time to remember being a child and just living for the moment with your best friend to experience it with! Think back, it wasn’t that long ago that a butterfly thrilled your soul or a song bird sent you soaring deep in thought of the possibilities of flying carefree… climb a tree and see the world… make tents of blankets in the living room… share an ice cream cone… sit with your feet in the creek or lay on your back and watch for shapes you can find in the beautiful clouds or at night gaze at the wonder of the universe as you look for the big dipper! I guess what I am really trying to say is “Stop and smell the roses!” There is beauty and peace around if we take the time to look for it and shut out the busyness of the day for a while!
If you can’t remember how, go to the local park and watch the children playing without care… listen to the laughter and excitement, go for a walk with a child and watch as they discover new things, grab a hold of it and live!!! I give you permission to go check it out and act like a kid once more!
Until next time have a great week, and a special thanks to my bride Laura for cuddling with me this weekend watching football and silly programs and showing me she cares so much! I really needed that! Joe
