Location, location, location…

How many times have you heard those words… location, location, location?  It is almost a REALTORS® mantra… you can hear it echoing off the mountains, valleys, river and ocean views!

I was watching a tv program last night with my bride called Rick Steve’s’ Europe about Northern Ireland and he visited the site of an old castle called Dunluce Castle that you would figure met all this wonder of location, location, location… it sat high on a cliff overlooking the land and the sea, it was the center point for miles around… lavish and well decorated through the years with the finest of imported goods and delicacies! But one night in a storm a good portion of that cliff took out the kitchens and 7 cooks along with some other assorted rooms, down into that ocean!  Needless to say the lady of the manor decided it was time to move and the place fell into disrepair… you can read some of the history here with the first link and see more photos of the castle by clicking on the second link:

How often do we take everything into account when we are looking for that special location with a view to die for or the seclusion we desire? Often it comes with a price… whether that is a big price tag or having to put up with other factors, a long icy hilly driveway in the winter for example or hillsides that need mowing in the summer… ask me how I know this one… lol! Or at the worst something similar to our story above on the hilltop overlooking the beautiful but dangerous North Irish Sea that reclaimed its land along with the said kitchen and part of the castle!  I can think of many homes in California with views to die for but how many of those homes go sliding down the hillsides when it rains or the earth decides to shake them off their foundations?  Location does matter but make sure you look at all the possibilities or you might be in for a rude surprise some day!

Until next time have a wonderful week, Joe
